GENERATIONS DEPEND ON ME

Silverback Society® News

July 12, 2010

Two recent events have been very encouraging for the Silverback Society® movement and to me personally, as a man.

A couple of weeks ago, Hiram Nurse, after hearing a presentation I did for young people as part of a Fairplay Foundation event at Dillard University, invited me to present to the young people he worked with who had just begun a life/work skills program at Café Reconcile. I am honored to let you know that my presentation will be a regular part of their orientation for that training program. I would like to thank Donna Bowie the program director for making me part of the family and their effort.

The presentation I did for the Café Reconcile participants is nothing more than “Session 2” from the Silverback Society® curriculum. It always gets people to look forward to life more conscious and excited about the part they can play in their own success.

My work in the “off season”, when school is out is to fish for men, recruiting men to come and share and enjoy this work with us. I may have hit the mother lode of capable, responsible sucessful men, the brothers who love cars and have reached a point in life where they can afford to have the big boy toys.

Rashida Ferdinand, a powerful young leader in the Lower Ninth Ward's struggle back and director of the Sankofa Marketplace put me in touch with the Untouchable Car Club. After meeting with Stanley Stewart and Kenneth Washington, the Untouchable Car Club's spokesperson and president respectively, these men have agreed to invite me to address the men gathered at all of their car shows in the future. The recuiting effort at the Sankofa Marketplace this weekend at the car show was more productive than any other effort, and we had a great time.

It was a beautiful event, after the rain.

This is wierd. Sankofa Marketplace and the Untouchable Car Club did all the hard work, and they give me a plaque. Thank you Rashida and Stanley for the plaque and sharing this photo-op and helping the Silverback Society to grow.
